07 Apr 2021

Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga stated that the Government is expecting to initiate laws to prevent terrorism. He also said that the Presidential Commission of Inquiry on the Easter Attacks (PCoI) has given recommendations to enact new laws to prevent terrorism in Sri Lanka.
The Minister said this while addressing a media briefing held yesterday (06) at the Department of Government Information. He further emphasized that the Cabinet Sub-Committee appointed to study in-depth the facts and recommendations on the course of action contained in the final report of the PCoI into the Easter attack has proposed that new legislation should be enacted to eradicate terrorism and to include laws for the use of modern technology in the suppression of terrorism. Accordingly, these tasks have been given to the Ministry of Defence to take necessary action in this regard. Further elaborating on the report of the PCoI, Minister Ranatunga said that the Sub-Committee had agreed with many of the recommendations of the PCoI and had directed the Police to further investigate the undisclosed matters.
