New representatives will be appointed today (28) to replace the local government representatives who were removed from the UNP due to their support for the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, the UNP General Secretary said today.
Sixty nine members of Municipal Councils, Urban Councils and Pradeshiya Sabhas were recently expelled from the UNP for supporting the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.
A group of new representatives will be sworn in today to replace the 69, which will be presided over by party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The ceremony will be held at the party headquarters at Sirikotha this morning in accordance with health rules, the UNP General Secretary said.
Meanwhile, new members are to be appointed to replace the resigned members of the Municipal Councils and Pradeshiya Sabhas.
Members of local government bodies who joined the Samagi Jana Balawegaya were removed by a gazette notification of the Election Commission.
