All events for the Sinhala and Hindu New Year should be conducted with the permission of the health authorities and the police, stated Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana today.
He stated that this year, the police has given approval for festivals celebrating the new year however, such events should be organized with the prior permission of health authorities.
He stated that since the new year could not be celebrated last year, they hope to do so this year while prioritizing all health customs. He stated that a set of guidelines on conducting such events would be issued.
Further, it was revealed that legal action was taken against over 3,700 persons for the offences of not wearing face masks and not respecting social distancing guidelines.
