NMRA on data recovery mode

21 Aug 2021

By Maheesha Mudugamuwa   The National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) last week assured the security of the data that had allegedly been erased from its database last month, as the Authority is now in the process of recovering the lost data.   Speaking to The Sunday Morning, NMRA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Kamal Jayasinghe noted that IT experts were currently re-ordering the lost data and the data system would return to normal once the process is completed.   “We have all our data safely. It’s now a matter of re-ordering it,” he added.   When asked whether the Authority could recover the lost data, as it was reported last month, the NMRA CEO said the data had been recovered, but it was not in the correct order, so IT experts are now correcting the technical mishap. It was recently reported that a large portion of data, sized at nearly two terabytes (TB), including the information of local and foreign drug companies, was in danger due to the alleged data loss.   Meanwhile, the Police Media Division said the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is currently investigating the matter.
