Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said no decision has been taken to close down the parliament and requested the MPs to support parliamentary affairs without spending time at private functions.
“We have not taken any decision to close the parliament. I request the MPs to support the duties of parliament without spending time at funerals and weddings. We can’t do anything without a functioning country,” he said.
He said the health authorities have predicted that COVID-19 pandemic could last for one or two years.
“We cant keep everything closed down and solve the issues of the people,” he said.
