No decision yet on IGP says Minister

President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe are to decide on the recent actions of Inspector General of Police (IGP), Pujith Jayasundera following concerns raised at the weekly Cabinet meeting on Tuesday (18). A senior government minister told The Morning that several issues related to the IGP were discussed at the meeting of Cabinet Ministers on Tuesday. He said that it was then discussed to request the IGP to resign given the controversies raised by him recently. Media reports today stated that the IGP has been asked by President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to resign by the end of the month. However, when contacted by The Morning, Law and Order Minister Ranjith Madduma Bandara told The Morning that no decision has yet been made on calling for the IGP’s resignation.
