No disciplinary action?

08 Sep 2019

The United National Party (UNP) may decide not to take disciplinary action against Deputy Leader Minister Sajith Premadasa for continuing his campaign activities despite the party leadership suspending campaigning. UNP stalwart and Minister of Tourism, Wildlife, and Christian Affairs John Amaratunga told The Sunday Morning that he did not believe any action would be taken. “I don’t think any disciplinary action would be taken against Sajith Premadasa or those from the party who are campaigning for him.” The party leadership, earlier last week, declared a moratorium on campaigning activities until a presidential candidate was named by the party. However, yesterday and on Thursday (5), UNP presidential hopeful Premadasa, along with a number of UNP ministers and MPs, took to the stage at a rally held in Kurunegala as a show of strength for his presidential bid. Minister Amaratunga meanwhile said he appreciated such campaigning. “Having meetings and promoting our party is a good thing. I see it as a good thing,” he said. By Skandha Gunasekara
