No fuel, no electricity: CEB TU

07 Jan 2022

Due to the lack of US dollars, the purchase of fuel cannot be done and thus the country is facing power cuts says Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Engineers Union spokesperson Dhammika Wimalaratne. He made this statement while speaking to The Morning today (07). "The fact is that we do not have fuel. The Sapugaskanda refinery was closed as well due to the lack of fuel. Sri Lanka does not have dollars to pay for fuel, so one plant cannot be operational," said Engineer Wimalaratne. Whereas, Wimalaratne said that there are discussions to obtain fuel from India by the end of the month, and hopefully if that materialises, the supply of electricity will return back to normalcy.
