No Indian immigrants captured so far: Navy

15 Apr 2020

BY AGRA RANASINGHE The Sri Lanka Navy yesterday (14) said the operation devised to prevent any Indian nationals from entering Sri Lanka through the seas is yet to apprehend any immigrants passing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL). Navy Media Spokesperson Lieutenant Commander Isuru Suriyabandara told The Morning that although the operation has been in place for over a week, no suspicious persons had been apprehended thus far. “We want to ensure that even a fisherman is prevented from passing the IMBL of Sri Lanka as well as immigrants, because they interact with each other. “Due to that, they are at risk of being infected with the Covid-19 virus,” Lieutenant Commander Suriyabandara said. The Navy and Sri Lanka Air Force Intelligence Units have carried out the operation with the assistance of the Special Boats Service, and the naval operation is continuing 24 hours a day.
