No May Day rallies

By Skandha Gunasekara May Day Rallies of political parties have been cancelled following the Easter Sunday terror attacks. United National Party (UNP) stalwart Minister John Amaratunga told The Sunday Morning that the party had decided to cancel the May Day rally. Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Spokesman MP Dayasiri Jayasekara said that his party would also not be holding the May Day rally. Meanwhile, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Parliamentarian Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa stated that the party had decided not to go ahead with their May Day rally in light of the terror attacks while UPFA Parliamentarian Vasudeva Nanayakkara too confirmed that the May Day Rally of the "Joint Opposition" would be scrapped. Deputy Leader of the Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA) Minister Palani Digambaram and Vice President of the Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) Kanapthy Kanakaraj also informed The Sunday Morning that they would not be having their May Day rallies this year.
