The US Embassy in Colombo today said that monies attached to the proposed $480 million Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) agreement had not ever been transferred or been spent by the Sri Lankan Government.
The US Embassy taking to its twitter account further said, "funds for preparatory activities have been canceled or indefinitely postponed, pending the Government’s decision whether to proceed with the grant."
Co-Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Ramesh Pathirana last week announced that the Government has already decided not to sign the US MCC grant agreement.
He said the decision was based on the recommendations of the committee appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers to review the MCC grant.
