No more hand sanitiser for prisoners

By Dinitha Rathnayake Following the death of two Iranian nationals who were imprisoned in Sri Lanka, after consuming disinfectant liquid last week, the prison authorities have prohibited inmates from using disinfectant liquid, The Morning learnt. This decision was taken yesterday (17) and will be fully implemented from today (18) onwards. The Iranians, who had been in remand custody at the Welikada Prison on narcotic-related charges, died last Thursday (14) while 10 other Iranian inmates who also consumed hand sanitiser were hospitalised. Prisons Media Spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said hand sanitiser was provided to the inmates by the Iranian Embassy in Sri Lanka.
