No post-election day violence

By Sarah Hannan The Police Media Division confirmed that no incidents relating to the violation of election law were reported over the immediate 24 hours since polls closed on Wednesday (5). “Since 5 p.m. on Wednesday till 5 p.m. on Thursday (6), no incidents (of violence) were reported at any of the police stations across the country. The counting of ballots is still ongoing and we have not received a single complaint from the counting centres so far as well," Police Media Spokesperson SSP Jaliya Seneviratne told The Morning. Sri Lanka Police informed that they had deployed over 70,000 officers on election duty a day prior to election day, and those officers are still providing the required security to the counting centres that have been appointed by the Election Commission (EC) across the 22 electoral districts.
