No response from MS to contest

President Maithripala Sirisena was yet to respond to a request from the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) to contest the forthcoming presidential election.
Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara told The Sunday Morning the SLFP had not yet decided who their next presidential candidate would be but the party was of the view that it should be President Sirisena.
Last month, a group of SLFPers consisting of Senior Deputy President of the SLFP Nimal Siripala de Silva, General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara, Mahinda Samarasinghe, Sarath Amunugama, Duminda Dissanayake, Mahinda Amaraweera, Faiszer Musthapha, and Ranjith Siyambalapitiya officially handed over a letter to the President requesting him to contest the upcoming presidential election. MPs Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Weerakumara Dissanayake, Dushmantha Mithrapala, Sriyani Wijewickrama, Mohan Lal Grero, and Shantha Bandara were also among the group that handed over the letter to the President.
