No warrant on Dhammika after alleged assault

21 Jan 2021

The Police have not issued a warrant against Dhammika Bandara, but have launched an investigation in connection with an incident of him allegedly assaulting a doctor. DIG Ajith Rohana told The Morning yesterday (20) that the Crimes Division of the Kegalle Police Station is currently investigating the incident, but that no warrant has yet been issued on Bandara. When contacted, the Officer-in-Charge of the Peradeniya Police Station confirmed that a complaint had been lodged with the Peradeniya Police Station in connection with the incident and that the case was referred to the Kegalle Police. He also said that the doctor in question is attached to the Peradeniya Hospital. Bandara became famous after he openly claimed to have found a cure for Covid-19 known as “Dhammika Paniya”, resulting in people in Kegalle and other districts flocking to obtain the miracle cure, ignoring health guidelines. Several MPs and ministers too were seen tasting the paniya, leading to increased visibility for it.
