Normal academic activities in schools from today

10 Jan 2022

As previously announced by the Ministry of Education last week, normal academic activities in schools across Sri Lanka was normalised today onwards. The decision was taken based on the advice of the Director General of Health Services, said the Secretary to the Education Ministry Prof. Kapila Perera. Steps were taken during the pandemic to gradually normalise academic activities during the pandemic and a gradual step by step process was introduced. However, starting from today all students will be returning to their respective schools for academic activities as per usual, although canteens of schools will continue to remain closed, the Education Secretary said. The Public Health Inspectors' union (PHIU) said that with the normalization of academic activities at schools, more attention should be paid to the health status of students. PHIU President Upul Rohana mentioned that it was essential that proper health guidelines are to be followed as children are more likely to spread the virus as they are exposed to society.
