Not a second wave: SLMA

14 Jul 2020

By Skandha Gunasekara The current resurgence in Covid-19 patients could not be considered a second wave as Sri Lanka is yet to experience its first wave, The Morning learnt. Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) President Prof. Indika Karunatilake told The Morning that the initial outbreak of the virus earlier this year was not a “wave”. “It is not a real wave. What Sri Lanka experienced was a number of clusters in different locations and different times. This cannot be considered a wave.” Thus, he said the Kandakadu cluster is yet another cluster. “The first time, our health authorities and tri-forces were able to contain and manage the clusters through their trace, test, and treat strategy and it was not a full-blown wave. So technically, this Kandakadu cluster is not a second wave,” he noted.
