Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says that Sri Lankan territory will not be used for anything harmful to Indian security.
Wickremesinghe has made this observation during a recent interview with Nitin A. Gokhale of Strategic News International.
He has explained that Indian territory will not be used for anything harmful to Sri Lankan security and similarly Sri Lankan territory will not be used for anything harmful to Indian security.
“So we are functioning within that framework,” the Prime Minister has said.
Wickremesinghe has made this observation in response to a question on the concerns raised over the Hambantita Port being leased out to the Chinese.
“We also told the Chinese, the Japanese and others that there was an understanding between India and us,” he has noted.
Wickremesinghe has further noted that the government was discussing with Indian authorities about another public-private partnership for the Hambantota airport, the Mattala airport.
“But nothing will be allowed to be used for military purposes, but commercially yes,” he has added.
