NPP ready to rebuild Sri Lanka: AKD

20 Dec 2021

The National People's Power (NPP) is ready to take over and build Sri Lanka so that it may emerge from the current detrimental situation, says NPP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayaka. He made this statement while speaking at a conference organised by the NPP today (20). "The people of the nation have suffered enough and the corrupt Government has made enough and more money off the sufferings of the people of Sri Lanka. The country is at a state where the economy is on the verge of crashing, the only way out is transparency. When one falls into a well, the only way back out is through the mouth of the well. The Government needs to acknowledge that they are unable to take the country forward, and the NPP is ready to take over the country in the state it is in right now," said Dissanayaka. He went on to say that the misfortunes of the people of Sri Lanka have generated money for the corrupt officials and the Government. "The corrupt Government and officials made enough commissions from the Covid antigen test kit imports, then they made money through the quarantine facilities. People paid heavy sums to stay in Government approved quarantine facilities, hefty amounts were paid for PCR and antigen tests which were not regulated. When all the money that could be taken from those deals were done with, the officials came up with the nano-nitrogen fertiliser deal. The farmers have no fertiliser to grow and harvest their crops, there is clearly a food shortage in the country, and the officials are still making money from the fertiliser deal," he stated. Further, Dissanayaka stated that over 150 containers are stuck at the Colombo Port with essential goods, whereas the Government does not have the funds to release these essentials to the people. "Sadly, it is the normal middle class population that has been inconvenienced by this Government. The Government is supposed to uplift and build the livelihood of the people, whereas this Government has proved to be unable to do so. This is a result of corruption, and the only way forward is that there has to be accountability and transparency in economic dealings," Dissanayaka stated. In his speech, Dissanayaka spoke about the youth of the country who have now been discouraged and have lost hope in their own country. "We can see a lot of the youth are fed up and think that whichever party that comes to power it is of no use. We see the talented youth leaving the country. These youth are not leaving the country only for employment, but are leaving for social security. The common talk now between a husband and wife is about the insecurity and the fear of the future for their children. This is the current state of the country," Dissanayaka mentioned. In concluding, Dissanayaka said that the future of the country is now in the hands of those who unite and stand up against the corruption that has taken place, and assist in taking the country forward along with the NPP.
