  • Ministry urges adherence to health guidelines
BY Buddhika Samaraweera The Health Ministry has pointed out that it is very important for everyone to follow the Covid-19-related health guidelines when engaging in daily activities as there may be Covid-19 Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant-infected patients, not only in the reported areas, but also in all parts of the country. Speaking at a media briefing held yesterday (3), Health Ministry Communications Director, Public Health Services Deputy Director General, and Disaster Preparedness and Response Division Head Dr. Hemantha Herath said: “There are reports of cases of Covid-19 Omicron variant infections in certain areas of the country these days, but that does not mean that the said variant is prevalent only in such areas. There may be patients infected with the Omicron variant in all parts of the country.” Therefore, he said that everyone should try to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in any form. “Everyone should work to prevent the Covid-19 infection in any way, where it is very important for all to follow the Covid-19 health guidelines when performing daily activities,” he added. According to the Epidemiology Unit, Sri Lanka, as of 7.30 p.m.yesterday (3), had recorded 15,037 Covid-19 deaths while the total number of infections stood at 588,300, of which a total of 561,128 patients have recovered. Meanwhile, the Health Ministry recently advised that in the current situation, it is more important to take necessary steps to protect against the Covid-19 pandemic in general than to look for each Covid-19 variant.
