One person died and several others were taken to hospital during the Joint Opposition (JO) protest yesterday.
Police spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera told The Morning that a man from Thalawakele had died during the protest.
He said that the man had died after reportedly suffering from a heart attack.
The Police spokesman also said that several others had sought treatment in hospital following suspected food poisoning.
At least 25 people had reportedly sought treatment at the Colombo National Hospital last night.
The Police spokesman, meanwhile, said that there were no arrests made or major incidents related to the joint opposition protest.
