One of the four escaped inmates of the Gallella COVID treatment Center in Polonnaruwa has been found in the Anawilundawa area today, stated Police Spokesperson Ajtih Rohana.
He was fifty two year old detainee Nimal Wasantha alias 'Gataya', who is a resident of Waikkala, Angampitiya, Ambagaha Colony. He had been detained in the Negombo Prison following a robbery, and was shifted to the Gallella Center for treatment.
Further, Thushara Ariyarathne of Bangadeniya has been arrested for aiding the escaped fugitive. Ariyarathne is a former inmate of the Negombo Prison who was imprisoned for assualt, stated the Police Spokesman.
Wasantha has been taken to the COVID Treatment Center while Ariyarathne has been quarantined, while action will be taken against both for violation of quarantine regulations.
Ajith Rohana further stated that three more fugitives remain in society and further investigations are being conducted to recapture them.
