One person was injured in a shooting near a private bank in Anuradhapura this morning (06), Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.
A security guard and another agent of a private company had arrived at around 6.45 this morning to deposit money in the bank's ATM.
Two persons who had arrived on a motorbike had attempted to snatch the stock of cash.
Police stated that a fight had taken place between the two parties at that time.
Meanwhile, the firearm belonging to the security officer of the private company had been activated and he had been injured.
The injured private security guard has been admitted to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital for treatment, Anuradhapura Police said.
However, the robbers did not have the opportunity to flee with the cash and fled on the motorcycle they arrived on.
Anuradhapura Police are conducting further investigations.
