By Dimithri Wijesinghe Photos Pradeep Dambarage On Friday (24), Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo hosted a screening of the much-awaited finale of the eight-year-long global obsession that was “Game of Thrones”. The event featured a quiz night with 50% off on food and beverage, and the bringing together of fans of a show that has become a cultural phenomenon. Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo offered fans an opportunity to relive the most monumental showdown in television history. The event offered an interesting variety of themed food offers, along with signature beverages like Mother of Dragons and Cinnamon Apple Red Viper, among many other food offerings. In addition to the food, a real highlight of the night was the intense quiz battle for two bottles of beverage offered up to the winners. The competition was eventually won by the smallest group that participated, certainly not lacking of hardcore fan energy. We caught up with the winners of the coveted title and some other fans whom were having a blast reminiscing and putting their Game of Thrones trivia knowledge to the test. Winners – Tina Anderson, Shamali, and Dharmakantha “I’ve been a fan for a long time, and I believe there are many Sri Lankan GOT fans like myself. This was a great opportunity to for us to get together. The quiz gave us an excuse to revisit the material, to go back and read the books and then have our knowledge tested. Our group – the three of us – came together just by chance. We were a friend of mine, my wife, and me, and it’s really been great fun.” Kavindi Desilva “Given the situation of the country, I am really happy and surprised that they organised an event like this. I see many people here taking part and enjoying it. The show has been going on for a while and the fan base is huge, and the fact that it has come to the island shows that it is immensely successful.” Maneesha Wijesiekara “This is very fresh. Considering the situation in Sri Lanka, it’s really great that the organisers put this together, because I came here with just one of my friends and now, I am sitting amongst a group of like-minded people, all competing together.” Hasini Haputhanthri “Especially because of what Sri Lanka is going through, this was such a fun event for us fans to get together, and given the situation, it had a fantastic turnout. I think it’s important for people to organise social gatherings like this for us to get back and rebuild.”
