  • Keahra Mudalige on how to style your outfits and more
Keahra Mudalige, a well-known stylist and fashion personality online, was born in Sri Lanka, but moved to Dubai during her childhood and grew up there for 25 years. She has always been fashion-forward, experimenting, and trying to come up with new styles. Her sense of style is an exciting balance of feminine, elegant, and fashionable pieces put together. In conversation with Brunch, she shared that she cherishes the memories of growing up within a multicultural city with the opportunity to experience different traditions, fashion trends, and cuisines. Keahra graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management from the Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management. She told us that her family owned a Far Eastern restaurant in Dubai, which gave her the opportunity to gain firsthand experience within the restaurant and catering industry, while also working on marketing projects and event co-ordination during her university days.  She eventually moved back to Sri Lanka in 2017 and co-founded Platter Parties along with her mother, after noticing a lack of gourmet catering concepts in Sri Lanka. She was also involved with King of the Mambo during their pre-opening and was the Brand Ambassador for its first year in operation.  Currently, Keahra is one of the Brand Ambassadors for Nail Spa, Sri Lanka. She is also the lady behind the popular Instagram page Colombo Street Style. The page currently focuses on food, fashion, and holiday getaways in Sri Lanka.  When talking to her about her personal style, she explained that it has changed with the trends over the years. In the past, she was a huge fan of high-end brands like  Zara and BCBG Max Azria, but after moving back to Sri Lanka her style has adapted to what suits the climate. Commenting on her current sense of style, Keahra stated: “I would say casual trendy is my go-to. I have come to like a few local brands and am always on the look for flowy pants and dresses to stay cool and comfortable.” For her, comfort is something that she takes into serious consideration when choosing an outfit. At the moment, she told us that she also feels that she’s gravitating towards more printed outfits to merge the vibrancy of colour to keep up with the tropical climate.  One’s personal style changes and evolves as one grows. According to her, it’s important to embrace these changes while keeping with current trends that reflect one’s personality. When it comes to shopping for clothes, she mentioned that she prefers traditional retail shopping, as it allows her to examine the fabrics in person.  “An outfit that looks great in pictures may not suit me or my body shape. Trying them on first and then buying it is my motto,” she added. She also added that people should always go with colours and fits that complement their skin tone and body shape. Another useful shopping tip she shared was that when buying a new item, think about how the purchase can be expanded through the mix-and-match approach with items one already has in their wardrobe. “Spend time going through your wardrobe every three to six months mixing and matching the outfits you currently have and getting rid of what you don’t need to create your seasonal capsule wardrobe,” she elaborated.  Style is a personal taste, and Keahra believes one should always feel comfortable and confident in the outfit that they choose to adorn, no matter the time of day or type of occasion. She added that it is important that when one  makes a purchase, the first thing they should do is take notice of the fabric, the fit, and the finish. Keahra’s social media portrays her life while being impeccably stylish, vibrant, and colourful; from everyday looks to travel posts, promoting her brands, lifestyle, and fashion. In her opinion, it is essential to create one’s style by trying out the clothes they have in their wardrobe. “Have your own mini fashion show in front of the mirror; this will help you truly get to know your comfort spot with your personal fashion style,” she advised.
