Over 10,000 tourists in SL registered with SLTDA

07 May 2020

Over 10,000 foreign tourists still in Sri Lanka have been registered with the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA). Minister of Foreign Affairs Dinesh Gunawardena said the SLTDA and the Foreign Affairs Ministry were monitoring the situation. “The Tourism Board has registered all these foreigners. They have the opportunity to go back,” he said. The Minister said all foreigners had gone through quarantine procedures. “They are all residing in hotels around the country and have all undergone proper quarantine procedures.” He noted that the lack of air travel options due to the Covid-19 outbreak was a main restriction they are facing. “Our airport is closed and most other countries too have closed their airports, so international travel is extremely restricted at the moment,” the Minister noted.
