Navy Commander Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne on Tuesday (8) issued promotions to 1,729 naval personnel, of varying rank, to the subsequent level of command.
The promotions were made to coincide with the Sri Lanka Navy’s 70th anniversary yesterday (9).
Anniversary celebrations included a series of events at every naval command base, with prominence given to naval traditions and religious events, under the directives of the Navy Commander.
Along with these celebrations, the Navy’s capital ships will be anchored off Galle Face Green from 9 to 13 December.
This year’s commemoration is being held under the themes “Know your Navy” and “This is your Navy”.
Commencing the religious segment of the 70th anniversary celebrations, the “Kanchuka Puja” and “Flag Blessing” ceremonies were held at the Ruwanwelisaya and sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, Anuradhapura on 12 and 13 November.
