By the end of this month, 209 qualified Chief Inspectors (CIs) of Police will be interviewed to be promoted to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), said Public Security Minister Sarath Weerasekera today.
“The police have identified a number of fundamental issues that need to be addressed and one of them is the issue of promotions,” he said.
The Minister has pointed out that the police officers have not been promoted for many years due to the lack of proper procedures and that they have been subjected to distress because of it.
Therefore, it has been earlier decided to promote only 63 Inspectors of Police to the rank of ASP.
However, the Minister said that he had discussed with the President and increased the number to 209.
