The highest number of Covid-19 cases has been reported from the Gampaha district during the past 24 hours with 526 cases. The highest number of cases have been reported from Meegahawatta, Ragama and Dompe. In addition, 287 cases were reported from the Colombo district yesterday. In addition 260 cases have been identified in Ratnapura, 155 in Kalutara, 134 in Galle, 123 in Nuwara Eliya, 93 in Kandy and 91 in the Puttalam district. 2,284 Covid-19 infected people were identified yesterday. Of those, 2,259 belong to the New Year's Covid cluster. Twenty-five foreign nationals have been identified and have been quarantined. Accordingly, the total number of Covid infections in the country has increased to 225,922, according to the Government Information Department. Out of the total number of infected persons in the country, 190,464 have recovered and have been discharged from hospitals while another 33,198 infected persons are receiving treatment. With the confirmation of another 57 deaths due to Covid infection by the Director General of Health Services, the total number of Covid infected deaths in the country has increased to 2,260. Accordingly, 124 deaths due to Covid infection occurred on June 12 and 13 alone.
