The official statistics on drug addiction by the National Dangerous Drug Control Board (NDDCB) reported that 56.5% out of 530,000 drug addicts in Sri Lanka are on cannabis.
NDDCB Chairman Dr. Laknath Welagedara told The Morning, “According to the reports, within the 530,000 addicts in Sri Lanka, the most popular drug is cannabis, with 56.5% of the overall addicts being under its influence. 21.6% of drug addicts are under the influence of “Ice and Other Drugs”, 17.3% heroin and 4.6% on illegal pills. “
