Over 5,000 economic zones in Port City: Sabry

Justice Minister Ali Sabry today (21) stated that there are over 5,000 economic zones with regard to the Port City. He said that the Port City is designed to emulate economic zones because of Sri Lanka's unique geographical placement. "Investments are welcome from all nationalities and not limited to one. This is to escalate employment through investment," he said at the Port City press conference today. Sabry observed that the issuing of all licenses will come under the purview of the Port City Commission, which was appointed by the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. He stated that this cycle ensured sovereignty and confidence among the people. "Instead of having multiple commissions and departments to obtain approvals for development, the Port City Commission will serve as a one stop shop to eradicate unnecessary bureaucracy and red tape as a further attraction to potential investors," he clarified. He also confirmed that the Port City will consist of State of the Art Commercial Spaces, schools and hospitals scaled up to international standards. Additionally, he revealed that a dock in Port City that can hold 200 luxury yachts, a water sports corridor and a central park which is eight times as spacious as Galle Face.
