02 Feb 2021

The Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) says that more than 5 million patients have been registered in 40 government hospitals that have been digitized. It said relevant software records show that the state has registered over 13.4 million cases of registration under the Health Services Digitization Programme. "So far, this digitization programme has been introduced to about 40 hospitals in the North and East of the country and this work is being carried out very successfully," said the Head of Programmes of the ICTA, Shriyananda Ratnayake. This digitization also specializes in dispensing medicines to patients and managing stocks of medicines in the OPD. Due to this situation, the congestion in the OPDs has been reduced and patients have been able to leave for treatment in a very short time. Ratnayake further stated that the focus is now on developing the free e-channeling service for active patients in the digitized government hospitals as a more effective public service. This digital health project is being implemented jointly by the Ministry of Health and the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, digital health information systems have been installed at three major hospitals of the Sri Lanka Police and the Navy and nearly 300,000 are currently registered and receiving services.
