Over Rs. 200 m from SLRC for Easter Sunday victims

The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRC) conducted a comprehensive assessment in the aftermath of the Easter Sunday terror attacks in all three affected districts. The Red Cross teams visited the houses of victims and collected necessary information with the aim of supporting them to recover from this tragedy. Paper advertisements were published in all three languages (Sinhala/Tamil/English) to collect information of the victims as well. Information was also gathered with the support of other sources such as the Ministry of Public Administration, Ministry of Defence, and Ministry of Disaster Management. The SLRC said it will address short-term and long-term needs of the affected people. It will cover areas such as livelihood, educational support, unconditional cash grants, and psychosocial support as well. The SLRC has allocated Rs. 10 million to restart their livelihood. One hundred families will receive Rs. 100,000 each under this livelihood grant. Two hundred children affected due to this attack will receive Rs. 60,000 per year to continue their education. Moreover, an educational scholarship fund will be setup to provide continuous educational support until they complete their education. Another Rs. 8 million was allocated to provide psychosocial support which was identified as another key area. Considering the prevailing situation in the country, Rs. 17 million was allocated in order to promote social cohesion. As a short-term relief, 300 affected families will receive a sum of Rs. 30,000 as an unconditional cash grant.
