[caption id="attachment_186154" align="alignright" width="257"] Mallika[/caption] “Padhama” founded by Mallika Manike Hevawitharana is a brand new jarred food brand providing Sri Lankan style chutneys and sambals for those of us who simply don’t have the time to be making these dishes, or for those who simply haven’t mastered Sri Lankan food and the spice ratios for that perfect flavour profile.   Just only five to six months in since its initial launch, “Padhama” is already making waves for their niche selection of chutneys which currently includes a selection of four varieties – caramelised onion chutney aka seeni sambal, Sri Lankan pickle, baby shrimp fry i.e. the koonisso baduma and a sprats fry.  Speaking to Mallika she shared that she has always had a love of preparing food for her loved ones, as do many Sri Lankan moms, she said that she loved feeding anyone and everyone and she was often told that her chutneys were particularly delicious. She noted that considering that she prepared them with great diligence ensuring that they had a long lasting shelf life, she was able to share it with a lot of people. And, eventually with the insistence from her children and others, she decided to start her own business, to share her food with the world.  [caption id="attachment_186155" align="alignleft" width="229"] Mallika's son and daughter[/caption] She noted that when she first started, it was quite a challenge and she was unsure how she was going to get the word out and how her products would be received to begin with. She also noted that they conducted some market research just to see how many competitors were doing the same thing, how well were they doing it and the customers they were reaching and she provided that surprisingly there isn’t a lot of Sri Lankan style products available in the local market. “Much of it is for exports and so for the Sri Lankans there’s few options,” she said.  She said that regardless, it didn’t really matter if there were 100 other people doing the same thing as she was confident about her product, ensuring taste and quality. Made with love, Mallika hand makes her products ensuring that her customers receive an authentic homemade product that is absolutely delicious.  Having tried all four of Padhama’s signature items, we can vouch for taste and quality. They are simply delicious and just as Mallika intended they are ideal for those with hectic lifestyles. In our case, the chutneys, notably our favourites being the koonisso sambal, have been a heaven sent when it comes to having lunch during a work day. Especially if you didn’t have time to prepare enough curries, or even if you are purchasing a lunch packet you can still add some flavour thanks to these chutneys. With a shelf life of one month (it is best had within one month but we all know it can last a lot longer), the product is pretty ideal for anyone eating on the go. Even if you do have the time to make a nice big lunch this is really just a value addition to your meal.  Mallika also shared that while she has the Padhama jarred foods readily available, they can be delivered on a preorder basis, just one day’s prior notice would do. Additionally, if there is a client request for a specific chutney or even a curry, she can accommodate those requests if given a day’s notice. They have in house delivery therefore they can ensure the safe delivery of their curries and chutney to their customer’s doorsteps.
