PAFFREL identifies 356 questionable social media posts

PAFFREL has identified 356 questionable social media posts related to the presidential polls. Amoung the posts are 117 posts of election violations and 120 of false news. 17 posts were in relation to harassment, 84 posts consisted of hate speech while 6 posts violated human rights . PAFFREL said 9 posts were false news items causing harm. This is the first time PAFFREL commenced an observation and monitoring activity for the social media publications in the days leading to the Presidential Election. PAFFREL has observed so far more than 11,000 pages of social media pages of candidates, web-sites of political parties and popular and attracted pages/sites. The following is the summary of our observations until 5th November 2019. Our Social Media team has reported 49 of them directly to the United Nations. PAFFREL has reported 101 of them to the Commission of Elections and then to the Facebook representatives. Harmful postings on the Social Media are also reported to Social Media Platforms, if it is believed in violation of their community standards.
