Over 43,000 acres of farmland destroyed in North

Over 43,000 acres of farmland has been destroyed in the North as a result of the recent floods, officials said yesterday.

Minister of Agriculture, Rural Economic Affairs, Livestock Development, Irrigation, and Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development P. Harrison was briefed yesterday on the extent of damage caused to farmland when he visited the North.

Officials said that a full assessment of the damage is to be completed in two weeks.

Minister Harrison said that compensation will be provided to those affected by the floods.

Thousands of people were affected by the floods in the North and hundreds of livestock were also killed.
