Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa may travel to the Maldives to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the side lines of the swearing in of new Maldivian President Ibrahim Solih.
Modi will travel to Male on 17 November to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new Maldivian President.
Government sources said that Rajapaksa was advised to travel to the Maldives for the event and to meet Modi.
Rajapaksa was asked to see if he can meet Modi and brief him on the developments in Sri Lanka, which led President Maithripala Sirisena to dissolve Parliament.
Before the political crisis Rajapaksa had met Modi in New Delhi and discussed the relationship between Sri Lanka and India.
If Rajapaksa does travel to the Maldives, it will be his first meeting with Modi since Rajapaksa was made Prime Minister.
Last week, India said it was monitoring the situation related to the political developments in Sri Lanka.
In reply to a media query, Indian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar had said he hoped that the democratic process will be respected in Sri Lanka.MR may travel to Maldives to meet Modi

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa may travel to the Maldives to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the side lines of the swearing in of new Maldivian President Ibrahim Solih.
Modi will travel to Male on 17 November to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new Maldivian President.
