The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) urged the United Kingdom to push Sri Lanka on the human rights issue.
The British government was urged to note Sri Lanka’s failure to abolish the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).
TNA Leader R. Sampanthan told The Sunday Morning that he urged visiting UK Minister for Asia and the Pacific Mark Field, to ensure the Government fully implements the UN Human Rights Council resolution on Sri Lanka.
He said that the UK Minister gave an assurance that his government will maintain pressure on Sri Lanka to show more progress before March next year.
The TNA leader said that the work carried out by the Office on Missing Persons, as well as other mechanisms related to the post war reconciliation process were also discussed.
Sampanthan also stated that the process to draft a new Constitution was also discussed when he met the visiting UK Minister last week.
