Panagoda Army Hospital on standby for Army patients

03 Jun 2020

The Panagoda Army Hospital is on standby if there is a Covid-19 outbreak within the Army, Army Spokesman Brigadier Chandana Wickramasinghe said today. "Quarantine centres are mostly operated by Army officers and there is a huge risk that they may contract the virus." "However, we have taken all precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the virus among the Army," Wickramasinghe said. Last week, an Army officer placed on duty at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) tested positive for Covid-19. The Soldier had been in close contact with a group of returnees from Kuwait who later tested positive for the virus. Primary contacts of the Army officer were identified and were requested to self quarantine. Following PCR tests, two relatives of the Army officer tested positive for Covid-19.
