[caption id="attachment_123718" align="alignleft" width="408"] The Opening ceremony[/caption] PappaRich opened its latest outlet at The Grove, Nugegoda on 4 March. Inspired by the flavours of Southeast Asia, PappaRich Sri Lanka is an international restaurant chain, dishing out authentic Malaysian food. As a well-known international franchise restaurant with over 100 branches worldwide, PappaRich is solely dedicated to bringing treats from the Malaysian streets. Their newest outlet is situated at The Grove, which is an outdoor dining space.  Commenting on what The Grove has to offer, The Grove Owners Nayani and Sanjaya Senarathne explained to us that the area was initially a shrub jungle. “When we saw the space here, the idea popped into our head that we should do something unique.” Elaborating on the concept, Sanjaya explained that guests can walk in and order from any shop they prefer. “It's a self-ordering system; you pay at a central point and customers can sit anywhere they want.” This concept is perfect for a family – everyone gets to enjoy whatever they’re craving on the day, and are still able to sit together and indulge in a wholesome family outing.  The husband and wife duo explained why they wanted to start up such an initiative. “Life’s not about rushing. We want our customers to live in the moment and sit back and enjoy themselves with family and friends.” Taking us on a tour of the place, Sanjaya highlighted that because The Grove is surrounded by trees, the area is actually 2°C colder than off the main road, so it’s a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of the busy city life, and relax and unwind, encompassed by nature and a cool breeze.  Nayani also pointed out what looked like a raggedy, broken down wall, elaborating that it’s a facade wall that covers an entire pavilion, where they host events, parties, and private dinners. “We don't undertake parties that are loud, simply because it wouldn't fit the aesthetic, but we do very low-key affairs. At the pavilion, we even host yoga sessions on a weekly basis, so we offer customers health benefits as well.” Perhaps the most wholesome aspect of the place is the community values. Sanjaya  explained that if, for example, PappaRich sells a nasi lemak, no other shop is allowed to sell the same. “We all have space in this world, so why compete? Complement so that someone else also can grow with you.” At The Grove, it's all a very community-driven environment.  Other than the newly opened PappaRich, The Grove also houses four other outlets; Mango Tree and Jack Tree, Whistling House (which is a smokehouse), Bigo’s (a coffee shop), and the famous Michaelangelo Pizza and Pasta.  Nayani stated: “We don't want to call it a food court, because that's not the impression we want to give. It's a very elegant affair with a relaxing ambiance.” She added that they worked very hard on perfecting the lighting and deciding on the music. Your meals will be accompanied by a soft jazz melody and a slight chill in the air.  They will also be hosting a jazz brunch on 28 March. They also have live music every Saturday. Pre-covid, Sanjaya added, they used to organise quiz nights, open mics, and The Grove Bazaar, which is a market that happens on the pavilion at The Grove. “We haven't been able to get back into the groove of things yet, with the current situation, but we're looking into slowly getting back into it.” The Grove also offers a BYOB policy, when customers spend a certain amount. So, pop on over to indulge in some Malaysian cuisine at PappaRich and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere at The Grove, Nugegoda.
