Parliament not threatened by COVID-19: Sergeant-at-Arms

08 Jan 2021

The parliament is not under the risk of COVID-19 as State Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara had not attended Parliament from Monday (04) up to today, stated Sergeant-at-Arms Narendra Fernando. "As Minister Jayasekara, along with all the other ministers had been on holiday following the Budget discussion, there is no record of him associating the ministers before the first session of Parliament for 2021. Therefore, we can conclude that the parliament is not under threat of COVID," he told The Morning. He further said that no other ministers have been put in isolation or quarantine, but the necessary security measures will be followed in Parliament as usual. "We have followed our strict health guidelines during the days the parliament was open," he stated.
