Party leaders to decide way forward this week

Party leaders will meet and take a final decision this week on the due course of action to be taken following the people's mandate given at the presidential elections, The Speaker's Media division said. Opposition Leader, the Prime Minister, Party Leaders and Parliamentarians met with the Speaker yesterday to discuss matters on this regard. The Speaker's Media division said the majority were in consensus that the people's mandate be respected. Accordingly,  the below 3 alternative courses of actions were discussed at the meeting;
  1. To dissolve the parliament in line with the constitution and hold the general elections
  2. For parliamentarians to voluntarily provide a majority to dissolve the Parliament and hold a general elections immediately.
  3. For the Prime Minister and his ministers to resign voluntarily and let the new President appoint a care taker government until general elections are held.
