  • Majority of leaders call for Prez’s resignation
The Party Leaders’ meeting held yesterday (11) ended inconclusively, although most of the Party Leaders reportedly called for the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.  During the meeting, which was held via the Zoom platform yesterday, most of the Party leaders asked Speaker of Parliament Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena to convey to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa that he must step down.  Another Party Leaders’ meeting is due to be held today (12).  Initially, Abeywardena had said that the meeting could not be held due to security reasons. However, later, it was decided to be held via the Zoom platform.  The Opposition has called for the President’s resignation to move ahead with an interim government to restore political stability in the country, in order to resolve the economic crisis.
