Former Minister and MP Patali Champika Ranawaka, who was the General Secretary of the Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU), resigned from his post and party membership today.
The MP and several others resigned from their posts at the JHU Special National Convention held today in order to form a new political force.
MP Ranawaka, Karunaratne Paranavithana, Nishantha Sri Warnasinghe, Anuruddha Pradeep Karnasuriya, Nirosha Athukorala, Thushara Swarnathilaka, Danushka Ramanayake, Boseth Kalahepathirana, Theekshana Gammanpila, Kingsley Perera, Gamini Shantha, Gamini Liyanage, Thusitha Hewage and JHU Local Government members resigned from their posts.
Subsequently, new office bearers were appointed with the approval of the party members present at the convention.
Ven. Hadigalle Wimalasara Thera was appointed as the new Chairman of the JHU, Bandula Chandrasekara as the new General Secretary, Daya Perera as the Deputy Chairman, Tudor Perera as the Deputy Secretary, Anil Jayawardena as the Treasurer and Mahendra Jayasinghe as the National Organizer.
