PCoI report politically influenced, Gnanasara Thera falsely accused: Dayasiri

02 Mar 2021

The Presidential Commisssion of Inquiry (PCoI) report on the Easter Attacks is a politically influenced document because it does not provide concrete information on who is responsible for the attacks, State Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara today stated. “There is no analysis on the incident. Information such as perpetrators, political influencers and other persons involved in the incident have not been included in the report. There is not even a mention of why such an attack was carried out,” he said. He further stated that the report had purposely been written to accuse the former President Maithripala Sirisena. “There have been bomb attacks in Sri Lanka earlier, such as the bombings in Dalada Maligawa, Central Bank and Sri Maha Bodhi. But none of those instances were used as a ploy to accuse the government and its leaders,” Jayasekara further said. He also pointed out that Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thera was falsely accused in the report, while disregarding the big guns who had aided and abetted Muslim extremists to carry out the attack. Jayasekara stated that it was not a question of trying to protect the former President but that concrete evidence has not been provided in the report to accuse him. He further accused the government of using the Easter Attacks report as a scapegoat to accuse those that they do not want to be associated with. "We support the government but we will not agree to everything they say. We will take a stand where it is needed," he concluded.
