Very limited cases, says Chief Epidemiologist

There is a slight possibility of the PCR tests being conducted to identify Covid-19-positive individuals giving inaccurate results, The Morning learnt.
Ministry of Health Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said that a very small number of results could be inaccurate due to various reasons, such as false positives.
“For example, if there is a (Covid-19-)negative patient with a positive test result, we know it’s a false positive.”
However, Dr. Samaraweera said that such false positives or inaccurate test results were very rare when compared with the number of tests carried out.
“When you look at the number of tests that have been done – some 150,000-odd – you see that only a handful have given wrong results,” Dr. Samaraweera reassured.
