Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Ranjan Ramanayake, who was recently sentenced to four years of rigourous imprisonment by the Supreme Court after being convicted over the charge of contempt of court, was transferred to the Angunakolapelessa Prison yesterday (26) after having undergone a 14-day period of Covid-19-related quarantine at the Correctional Centre for Youthful Offenders at Pallansena.
Commissioner of Prisons (Administration/Rehabilitation and Skill Development) (Covering Up Duties) E.M.J. Chandana L.B. Ekanayaka, speaking to The Morning when contacted in this regard, said that the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test conducted on Ramanayake subsequent to the completion of the 14 days of quarantine, was negative.
The Prisons Department Head Office has also taken steps to detain him in Ward E at the said Prison under special security.
