Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Hector Appuhamy stated today that because of the government’s actions, the public is living in constant fear of all foods containing poisonous substances.
“In the New Year season, people are afraid to eat oil, flour and dhal, because reports have stated that they contain poisonous substances. The government says they have offered relief packages, but not everyone has access to them. The government has abandoned the public,” he stated at a press briefing held at the Opposition office.
He stated that the public also does not have enough food to eat during the season. He accused Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardene of being ill-informed and stating that a family can survive for two weeks on three kilograms of rice.
“The Trade Minister has no idea about the public. What he says suggests that he has no logic. The people who voted for him must regret it,” he stated.
