People have lost trust in their leaders: Ven. Muruththettuwe Ananda Thero

During the all Party meeting held yesterday (06) at the Abhayaramaya temple in regards to the teacher-principal salary issues, Ven. Muththettuwe Ananda Thero spoke at the meeting and revealed that he had informed President Gotabaya Rajapaksa that the people of the nation have lost their trust in the leaders of the country. "This problem has dragged on for 24 years. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa spoke to me over the phone this morning. I told him that the meeting was about the problems faced by teachers. He then told me to gather the opinions of teachers so it can be further discussed. I then told the President that the people of this nation do not trust the rulers and that as a matter of priority, the trust must be built," stated Muruththettuwe Thero. The Thero then went on to say that President Rajapaksa promised him that the trust of the people would be worked on and the issues faced by the teachers will be discussed. Additionally, Muruththettuwa Thero stated that Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa had spoken to him over the phone as well. "Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa called me and asked to have a discussion in regards to this matter. I told him that despite several discussions, it always ends up as cunning plans. I said (to the PM), that we need to protect children from this disaster and resolve this issue without dragging them to the streets,” he said. Party leaders such as former President Maithripala Sirisena and Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) leader Sajith Premadasa, as well as former Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, were in attendance at the meeting and voiced their concerns over the teacher salary anomalies and other issues involving teachers and education.
