PHIs to continue strike if fuel not provided: Upul Rohana

29 Jun 2022

The Public Health Inspectors Union, Joint Council for Professions of Supplementary Medicine and other affiliated health worker unions that launched the ongoing strike today will continue if fuel is not provided as a matter of urgency, says PHIU Chairman Upul Rohana. He made this statement during a media brief held today (29),. "Based on a decision taken by 8 medical affiliated unions, we have decided to continue with the strike until adequate fuel is provided to the medical field workers. Unions related to Family health practices, ECG and EEG monitoring center workers, Unions related to public nutrition, along with dengue and infectious disease unions and dental unions, will all take part in the strike," said Rohana. He further noted that despite the extraordinary gazette that was issued by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa for fuel to be provided to healthcare workers, no measures have been taken by the Government to ensure a steady fuel supply for health workers, and if this was to continue, a complete strike with all affiliated unions partaking would begin on Monday.
